Keep It Simple

Keep It Simple

A Poem by Abigale LeCavalier

Keep It Simple

She looks up
from the water,
or the tears,
or the salt.

Holding hands
in dark rooms jaded,
sometimes carried away
by emotions perceived.

There is no one left to blame.

She is not indifferent
to whispers
and strong words,
she just wants to hold on
to the idea;
this could work.

Love is a waste of chemistry,
being devoured
from the inside out,
cycles of depression
and anxiety.

Bittersweet contact
in crowded spaces,
one-sided wanting
for something more.

Keeping an eye out
for affirmation,
the reaction dovetailed
insanity divine.

And she has no recourse
but to let go
and be left behind.
