Growing Wings

Growing Wings

A Poem by Phantom Heart
"

A love of running put into words

"

My feet hardly seem to touch the ground
I am motionless as the world slides beneath me
Breathe, breathe deep, breathe in life
Whole lifetimes pass before my foot returns to earth
The moment I feel the cage of earth’s motionlessness
I push forward propelling myself back into the air.
Breathe, breathe deep, breathe in life
My hear pounds on my ribcage urging me on
It screams for more, more drive, more pressure, more life.
I am the most alive in flight, watching the worlds blur past me.
Breath, breathe deep, breathe in life
Bringing the horizon into the palm of my hand
My feet have grown wings

Ahhhhhhh to dream only to realize I'm walking! But it's interesting how much we take for granted. Walking is a great privilege and as sweet as it would be to fly, I love to walk. I love the visual illustrations and imaginative story that you told here. Good write!

I really enjoyed the last few lines of this. To me, they are certainly the strongest.

I like how you draw out the moment in your poem-- it was only when I read it a second time that I realized you were talking about footsteps.
