What Happened?A Poem by AbbieClarkAs Britannia takes off her crown, She throws it over our heads, It lands in the cunning hands, Of men who forget the dead,
There was once a time, Where everything had to be earned, Yet when we call out for help, People heads begin to turn,
They look and point, Some even grinning, They spitefully screech, ‘Oi our country’s minging’
Their greedy fingers slip, Rubs the seam of our purses, They take too much, From our teachers, nurses
They forget about the soldiers, They forget about a job, Only to get their living, Off a posh London snob,
They groan and they moan, ‘But there is a recession’ But try not a thing more, Then to chuckle at our depression,
There is something missing, Something that has to be said, Look at our government, And how they silenced the dead
Britain was once a family, Everyone did their ‘bit’ But why when the war is won, We are an uncontrollable pit?
We must work and we must play, We must change the way we live, For what is the price of help, When we should have so much to give? © 2014 AbbieClark |
