Key Changes

A Poem by Dig a Pony

You’re less than strange but more than weird
You’re far too worthy to be a sin
I may write you into my novel
Mind what you say, my dear

I’ll orchestrate some amazing catastrophe
I promise you, you’ll love your symphony
You’re so much more than an everyday circumstance
So open up the blinds and see the difference

Watch my latest and greatest move
The colors on the palette will blend so gracefully
And when the smoke dances pirouettes
I’ll pin these demises to another empty street

Will you, oh will you, help me out
The rings on my fingers are echoing in my ears
And the soles of my feet couldn’t carry me quickly
So I stood to face my fears

My friend the hummingbird offered me tea
While my love the rabbit offered me coffee
Only in the morning would such a thought be so mesmerizing
To have to choose between such wonderful things

And because I spend all my hours lost in poetry
I’ve built a town of feathers and clay
Where life is cherished as more than a collection of passing breaths
And moments are more than needles caught by the hay

I am a painter
My fuel is the sound
The music is good
The colors are loud
