War Horse

War Horse

A Poem by Aaron Dollhausen

A lad trained, befriended his father's last hope.

An officer rode through a hail of metal.

Two boys, yet men both, rode to salvation but found doom.

A girl connected with her mother's spirit while her grandfather gave all.

A private witnessed a companion fall.

Over trenches a savage struggle took many.

Enemies became friends through barbed wire.

Gas took the vision of one who saved.

Through this, rode war horse.
