Listen

Listen

A Poem by AaronC
"

This is one of my longer ones but that's because I was so inspired when I wrote it that it was actually really hard to stop. This inspiration came from Listen by Shad so check that out.

"

It's not enough to hear the music, you've gotta listen to it

Go back and listen through it.

With no physical movement.

Hear every word as it leaves the mouth

Play it all back, hear each mutter as a shout

Listen to the influences

Listen to the unison

Listen as the music takes a bruisin' with no crucifix.

Listen to the school professors

Listen to the cross-dressers

Listen to the lesser rap as if they were better.

And they still look down on students as if they were foolish

And yet they still look at rappers as if we were stupid

Listen to the lyrical content

Listen to the miracle of them.

Listen to the world stop moving.

That's what God said.

Listen to the sermen

Listen to the vermin

Listen to the lowly musicians who aren't earnin'

Listen to the curve in the line with no purpose.

Listen to the person get nervous 'cause they wanna be perfect

Like a world where every boy and girl

Isn't forced to find pearls as a servant.

Listen with the volume down, turn it up

Listen to the preacher as he bleeds in the cup

Let it runneth over,

Listen to him as he speaks with the weight of the world on his shoulders.

Listen to the boombox,

Listen to the Boondocks

Listen to the poor cops at food stops

Listen till my crew drops

I listened till I knew 'Pac

Listen with the treble up

Listen as the trouble stops

Listen as the silence turns to violence with the kalashnikovs.

Listen to the preachers,

Listen to the communists,

Listen to the meteorologists

Say the clouds are ominous.

Listen to Kweli

Listen to Quality

Listen to Ear Drum, listen to the comedies.

Listen to apologies,

Listen when they're heartfelt

Listen to my arsenal,

Listen to my cartel.

Listen to the humble,

Listen to the cocky

Listen to everyone

And listen to them properly.

Listen for harmony,

Listen for notes that sound good together when they come in peace.

Listen to the government,

Listen to the Covenant

Listen to some of them

But listen to all of it.

Listen to the intonation,

Listen for the wrong tone,

Listen to what we're facin',

Don't pick up the wrong phone.

Listen when I call home,

Listen to the combo,

Listen when I'm on the phone,

Listen to the cops, yo.

Listen every second,

Listen to every blessin'

Listenin' to all the reverends

Listenin' to God's intentions.

Listen to the soundwaves cave in

Listen in the basement

To the “click”'s sounding on the pavement.

Made by art's shoes

Not fake like cartoons

But when the hearing stops,

We listen to our hearts, we aren't fools.

Very very inspiring. I like the way you wrote this and I definitely relate to it being a musician. Good Job.

The poem is perfect. I like the complete poem. To listen is a forgotten art. Last line is very true also. A outstanding poem.

It makes alot of sense. I wouldn't change anything about it if I were you, however, it is a bit long considering most lines start with "listen" it easily becomes monotonous. Think of that next time, but well written. :)

I like rap. And I love meaningful, deep, rhyming rap even more. Cool write. Listening is always a good thing, even when they're not right. Thanks for sharing.

It's very lyrical and doesn't need changes, trust me.

You may be a failed rapper, but your writing here
proves you belong....well done!

I like this! The only changes I see are two spelling errors, and they may be mere "flying finger fumbles" from typing too fast. "sermon" not "sermen".
As to content, excellent. I have never understood why people limit themselves to listening to one genre of music; there is good music and bad of every type. ( Although, I never found much I liked in "disco") People also0 limit themselves by only listening to one point of view, you can't improve if you don't learn new things. You are a good writer with the potential to be great.

About
I'm a conscious hip-hop enthusiast and artist. The only thing with me is that I can't really rap so I write instead and I've always had this love for words and the English language so I guess it works.. more..
