I was on yahoo and came across an article about the new Canadian bills, ashamed after reading it I scrolled down to the bottom to read the comments and this particular one’s quote catch my attention. “The Evil of Political Correctness.”  So I just jotted down a few thoughts.

First I’d like to say that I am proud to live in Canada, I enjoy watching hockey.  Every year in winter it snows.  I come from a metis background.  I respect our military, and my friends are from all different parts of the world.

There will always be a negative in everything we do; there will always be that one person that disagrees.  But if we allow that 1% to control how we feel and how we do things, nothing will get better.  We will be doomed to repeat the same things over and over, unable to move forward.  No war whether violent or peaceful was ever won or stopped by someone saying “Well that person doesn’t like it so we better stop.”  It is easier to choose the path most followed, but it is most rewarding to stand against for the better good.

When we say that we can’t put an Asian scientist on a bill because it’s a stereotype, the only thing we are doing is feeding that precise stereotype.  It seems that people will take any excuse theses’ days to justify something.  For example snow was not used on the bills a reasoning being; “may become more controversial should global warming progress,” the Canadian Press reported.  Guess what; when I walked outside this morning there was snow on the ground, yesterday there was a blizzard in Eastern Canada.  I also live 4 hours away from mountains…  This leads me to believe that we are planning for the world to be doomed and getting ready for it rather than trying to stop it.  Many people commented that we should put scenery and monuments on the bills so as not to offend anyone.   When I look on the 20$ bill I see just that a monuments with some status on it.  Yet now they are saying that the image is inappropriate as there is a tiny pair of breast… On a statue that people walk past in the real world every day.  We are stuck on a treadmill of ideals unable to move forward and unwilling to get off and walk.

The following are some of the reasons certain pictures where not used:

-images depicting snow were avoided because they “may become more controversial should global warming progress,” the Canadian Press reported.

-Hockey was rejected because some see it as too violent

-Military images were rejected as inappropriate,

-The ice wine industry was rejected for being alcohol.

-Aboriginal art was rejected because "enough had been done" to promote the craft.

A few months ago the 100 bill had to be changed from an Asian woman to a more “neutral woman.”

-"the inclusion of an Asian without representing any other ethnicities was thought to be contentious," the Canadian Press

The monument used for the new Canadian 20$ bill was looked down upon, because of a pair of naked breasts barely visible on the currency.

Just my thoughts. I am curious as to what other people think about issues like these, not just in canada but around the world. (Picture borrowed from google)

I see it here, USA North Carolina, as well. It seems to me that to some political correctness gives them the reason to be prejudiced against those that don't agree with them? At least that is what I see here. It is ok to state your point of view so long as it agrees with their, but the minute it doesn't . . .

It is always disappointing when people try to run something by pleasing everyone... I agree with your thoughts
