My Sister

For my dear friend Jeannee

You may not be my real sister,

 

But I will treat you as such for the bond we share,

Can only compare to that of sisterly love,

In kindergarten we first met and till today we still speak,

I remember when you moved away,

What a sad and happy day,

A sad day to know it would be some time before I saw your beautiful face,

A happy day to know that we would never lose touch,

And lose touch we never did, though the months would pass and my thoughts would wonder,

Until suddenly I would ponder my, friend, I would pick up the phone and dial the number programed in my head,

I would ask for your name and for hours we’d talk, to speak of are greats, and wonders we saw.  Then slowly we’d stop and id set down the phone.

Summers passed and soon it came the year to graduate,

I remember and am grateful you came to the city to see me.

We danced in our dresses and when we got “kicked out” we moved on to bowling, that’s only you and me who could put off such a show as to bowling our gowns!

Some time went by and I moved out, and you came down to visit such fun where those days.

The time finally came and I offered you a place and to the city you did move.

I am sorry for being so blind, for one day came when my love demanded you go away,

I am truly sorry I could not see, I was blinded by false love, but that is no excuse, for letting that be done.

So he kicked you out and you said to me. “If it had been you I wouldn’t have cared.”

You were right to ignore me after that to not want to talk to me and tell me to go away.

And the months passed, and when I realized that I needed you, I had already wrecked it.

But thank you for in your heart you still saw a place to forgive me of my crimes.

Now you wear a ring upon you finger and are living in your own place.

And I happily wait the days we will share

To see each other’s wedding day, and other fancy events,

To grow old and be happy with my sister by my side.

this was WONDERFUL! I loved it. you have given us a story that shows us the good and the mistake you made in this relationship... very difficult to do. so this was a bit risky for you as you really hung yourself out there. I applaud you for taking the risk. It adds to this write and teaches us about you, about forgiveness and the rewards it brings. So much of what we see in the media glorifies revenge. But it is forgiveness that pays the biggest rewards. and only those of us who are loving ever figure out the secret.
