A LETTER AND A FEATHER

A LETTER AND A FEATHER

A Poem by DONALD EISSLER
"

WHEN I CAME HOME THIS WAS WHAT I WAS LEFT

"

Found a little bird

Had fallen from its nest.

I couldn’t find its momma

Though I tried my very best.

.

Was just a little baby bird

Tried to spread it wings to soon,

Brought it home and nurtured it

Fed with a dropper and a spoon

.

I had myself a lady fair

More than just a friend of mine

She named the baby sugar

Name fit her really fine

.

Sugar grew so very strong

Fed by my loving ladies hand

How she seemed to love that bird

So much I couldn’t understand

.

Had to take a trip one day

Had to stay there over night

But when I did return

No sugar or lady were in sight.

.

Saw a letter on the table

A feather laying by its side.

Opened letter slowly

My fear I tried to hide

.

Said “My dearest Knight

How I love you so ..

But like little sugar

Felt was time for me to go.

.

Yes I really love you

But not the way I should

Never want to hurt you

If I stayed I knew I would.

.

Like our little sugar

I have gotten strong

To stay here any longer

I know it would be wrong.

.

You may never want

To hear from me again

I know its very hard

Now even to be friends.

.

But maybe in month or two,

Though probably even more.

Hope that we can at least

Try to open up that door.

.

Though sugar now has flown away

She left a feather just for you

I know she trying to say this

Like me, she’ll always love you too.

.

That happened not so long ago

Their memories I will keep

But that feather and that letter

Will always make me weep.

I appreciate your imagination and power of storytelling.
You crafted the rhymed piece with passion.

At the start I thought it would be a bit simple and a little boring, but as the story went on I realised that it was very truthful and though provoking :) love it!

Don't know if the rhythm really fit the mood. A couple of spelling errors. Cool story, man.
