![]() WHY I AM A TARNISHED KNIGHTA Poem by DONALD EISSLER![]() The story of why I use the name The Tarnished Knight.![]() . I been asked about why I use the Tarnished Knight as my name and why do I refer to slaying Dragons in many of my prose? Well here is a letter of sorts that may explain those reasons When I speak of slaying dragons, it is the dragon inside a person’s heart that I am talking about. We all have our share of heartbreak. I know you have had yours and God knows I have had more than my share. Sometimes after our heart is broken we are afraid that it will happen again, so we close our heart to any one that wants to come in. If they start to get close to opening that door, well you have a guardian. I call that guardian, “the fire breathing dragon.” He stops that other heart from entering. No matter how hard he tries he can not get past that dragon. Every time he thinks the door is being opened, the dragon breathes his fire and burns him and forces him to retreat. One can only try so many times before he realizes that he will never be able to gain entry to that heart he so desires. So he, like this Tarnished Knight, gets on his steed and rides away. For he knows that if he keeps trying he will surely burn. Like a fire when it burns your skin, it will scar you for the rest of your life. So better to ride away than risk having not been only scarred but also having a broken heart. That is why I call myself the Tarnished Knight. For I have myself been burnt by that fire breathing dragon. Sad to say, more than once has my armor been tarnished by its fire. I still believe though, somewhere out there is a dragon that needs to be slain. One that if I can open that door far enough, I can change that fire from the dragon that scars to a fire of passion from ones heart. So now you know the story of this Tarnished Knight. His only wish is that he again can become someone’s Knight in Shiny Armor. Till then he shall remain just a Tarnished Knight. T.K. © 2011 DONALD EISSLERAuthor's Note
