SEEMS THINGS ARE DIFFFERENT NOW

SEEMS THINGS ARE DIFFFERENT NOW

A Poem by DONALD EISSLER
"

What was ain't no more

"

Seems things are different now

Not quite like they used to be.

Once smiles and words of love

Sprung like blossoms on a tree.

Now the smiles are barren,

No blossoms seem to thrive.

Like the cold in winter

Our love did not survive.

The distance was a problem

We knew that from the start.

We tried so very hard

As love was in our hearts.

We talked on the phone

Spent hours at a time.

Though we both understood

The mountains to be climbed.

Then when we finally met

Thought true love was in the air.

Never thought I'd say this

New lovers’ best beware!

Seems there’s always one thing

That will pop its evil head.

What was once thought good

It takes and rips to shreds.

It can be in your past

Maybe in your future too.

Why some things happen

Sometimes I don’t have a clue.

Can be something that you said

Or a particular thing you do.

Maybe its the way you laugh

Or is it just another déjà vu

Guess no one can ever tell

Else you look into the eyes.

Will love truly blossom

Or wither up and die?

you made the rhyming scheme work but the sentimental mood of the moment was undermined by it in my opinion. To me sometimes rhyming in every verse, although a technical achievement to get the right words to convey the story and keep the rhythm of the rhymes, you can sacrifice the texture and tone of the poem that the words seek to create. just another angle from which to view. hope it's taken as it was intended. you are a talented poet/bard.
