HE WAS BY MY SIDE
Climbed up on the mountain.
Fingers almost touched the sky.
Even had to duck my head
As a cloud came tumbling by.
Felt I was invisible,
Amongst the blue and gray.
God must have rested here
On that seventh day.
I could see for miles.
As the air was clear and bright.
Sun shining through the trees,
Though did cast an eerie light
The leaves seem to sing
A song upon the breeze.
Some floating to the ground,
Saying "can catch me if you please".
Even saw an eagle,
Soaring oh so very high.
Looked at me suspiciously,
Giving me that eagle eye.
Then a little chipmunk
Came by to say hello.
Cheeks stuffed with acorns.
I think he’s wanting me to go.
Cannot remember when,
I spent a day like this.
You not being with me
Is the only thing amiss.
I feel so much better now,
For I’ve almost touched the sky.
Still don’t understand it,
Nor the reason why.
But I will take this day,
Always hold it deep inside.
As I have saw all its beauty
For HE was by my side.
A TARNISHED KNIGHT
