Society's Qualms

Society's Qualms

A Story by Aramey

An unedited thought.

I've always had somewhat of a drifter soul and instincts of change. I sat back today and really wondered why. How many people can you count that embrace all that you are, including flaws and knowingly place you under their wing despite all that could go wrong? How many not only know your flaws but instead of bashing you for them, they look at the good things about you and remind you who you are and bring you back? These people are rare. I can only count 1. We all make mistakes in this world and many of them, sometimes they are even repeated. Each time I went through some very bad experiences I ran faster and harder, trying to force a change. Everything began reinforcing a feeling of worthlessness and that I couldn't be me or that I had to find a way to do more than I could handle. It was a vicious cycle, a never ending spiral downward with the force of a speeding train. I learned to keep moving because I can't depend on anyone besides myself or because I felt like a burden. And when I finally stopped to breath I looked behind me and only found one still standing beside me, who didn't feel like he had to- but wanted to be there. A lot of people will tell you that in life that they will be there, but I was lucky to find someone who proves it time and time again. I mean an undying loyalty, the grace to truly forgive, a kick in the butt when you need one but not a retaliation of the same measures (a you hurt me so I'm going to show you exactly how it feels.) Yet again I feel strong enough to stand on steady ground and pause. I'm fighting and determined to stay there. As a society we all really need to shape up, I know there are plenty more than my "one" out there but it seems most will throw a whole life away just because it's banged up a little.

Very interesting thoughts. I think there could be more that one however given some trust and a little risk.
