Somewhere New

Somewhere New

A Poem by Doug Johnson
"

Sometimes I just write without even looking at what I'm doing. This is one of those poems.

"
 The train tracks blur past
Under my window like a flash
There for a second, then gone
Carrying me away to somewhere new

The baked road cracking
Under the car’s tires
Consistent throughout, and yet so varied
Carrying me away to somewhere new

The vast expanse of land
Beneath the airplane’s wings
So wide it never ends
Carrying me off, always carrying me off

A future, pushing me forward
A past tugging me back
Me, all caught in the middle
Being carried off

Frightened of the change
Looking behind me for comfort
Finding none, looking ahead
Walking away, moving towards somewhere new

Reaching out
Feeling nothing
Grasping at air
I found something new

Finding a new life
Making a new family
Learning the new ways
And forgetting the old

Never again will I want
To change my whole life
And I will just say no
When someone tries to take me somewhere new

About
I'm a teenager that loves writing. It's as simple as that. It would be nice to make a career of it, but it mostly just makes me happy. more..
