Domestic Violence

A Story by Ambra Celeste

Domestic Violence

'It is difficult for people who have not been abused to understand why we allowed abusers to abuse us. Difficult to understand how victims can have kids with our abusers. Difficult to understand how victims can love our abusers and let them totally manipulate us. Probably even more difficult for victims to explain it all not just to others but to ourselves. But to keep trying to make sense of that the situation only keeps us immobile, unable to move on, locked in the only thing we have known for a longer and longer time. The abusers can leave our house and not be in our lives anymore, but unless we totally recover and teach ourselves we deserve more, we will keep falling into the same trap over and over again. '
