A Real Woman

A Real Woman

A Poem by A Little Mess

What is being a woman according to society?
It is having long, silky hair and perfectly painted nails.
It is sitting up straight, ankles crossed
It is eating small bites and being too skinny to be healthy
It is being expected to smile and accept compliments humbly
Being a woman is cleaning the house and taking care of children
It is listening to your significant other and complying
It is not being real, though.

What does a real woman look like?
It looks like being perfectly pampered or being a mess
It is standing up for what you believe in and never letting someone put you down
It may be staying at home with children, but it may also be working 9-5 every week
It is long, beautiful hair or short, spunky hair
It is being strong and opinionated, or quiet and easy going

A real woman finds her true self and lets it explode so no one can ignore it
A real woman may not have female body parts, but she is still real.
A real woman has a beautiful, strong, shameless soul.
You are a real woman.
Never let anyone tell you otherwise.
