The Lost Secret

The Lost Secret

A Poem by A Lawless Lad
"

It's an old poem that I converted into a sonnet.

"
He entered the old house in frozen sweat
A cacophony of drumbeats were his two feet
With the restless timpani of his heart as they met
Their encounter was a moment so sweet
They waltzed with the swaying of the orange trees
And mockingbirds sang their songs at midnight
While they weaved themselves in the autumn breeze
He gazed into her eyes of light
So he stepped inside with means to write
To engrave this moment in time’s memory
But although the words seemed to flow all right
The eyes of others seemed a treachery
So he burned all fourteen of the pages
To keep their love lost to all of the ages

Author's Note

A Lawless Lad
I'd appreciate a better title.

Originally I had this told from the first person, and the gender was ambiguous. How do you feel about the change? I almost felt as though it was ironic that somebody would write about something they deliberately tried to keep a secret.

Well written piece, indeed. Very subtle, but punchy.
