A Journey to the Top Floor of a Parking LotA Poem by A Lawless LadAbout me dancing around like an idiot on the top of a parking lot with my iPod. I tried to make it seem pretty.embellished memories fragments of time I walked outside the gate with a dispute occurring between my ears I remember music and the beats of drums and that I wouldn't remember I suddenly felt compelled to run my destination was the top floor an empty parking lot above the school but my destination really wasn't anywhere I paced around as though it was an arena the song playing conducted my movements I looked out on an empty campus hanging over death the sky was starless the air was chilled the breeze was mellow my heart caught fire I danced around spinning in circles I flew down the stairs I almost threw myself from the balcony There were places I hadn't been before The graffiti spoke more to me the school was empty the pace of the songs mellowed I contemplated how awake I was I felt contently alone so aware of everything around me but the people who passed me by she caught me off guard with her smile I waved out of habit their presence began to transform me I walked so slowly back to the apartment I was pretending to be unaware the gate opened again and I stepped back inside.
