The King of BowlsA Chapter by Alex Jake makes his way to the King of Bowls and learns what this world is really all about.
I walk towards the brook and try to hop on the rock. I put on foot forward and stand on the rock and try and bring the next foot across the smallish brook. My foot misses the rock and my foot goes into the water. The water feels like the coldest water I have ever felt, or wait, was it the hottest water I have ever felt? All I knew was that my foot was in pain. I dove forward and landed on the soft grass. I sit up and look at my foot. From about my shin down there is nothing there, no blood, no nothing.
"Holy S**t!" I scream. The pain I had felt before was completely gone but so was my foot. My stomach starts feeling heavy like I am really nervous. I can feel the pressure move up to my chest and go up my neck. I feel like I'm going to throw up but instead I swallow it and the feeling starts to move back down my neck and chest and down to my stomach again. "What's wrong?" Kramm says to me. I look up at Kramm "My foots gone!" i yell i look back towards my foot and see that its back. It looks just like it did minutes before like nothing even happened "Things aren't always what they seem to be Jake." Kramm says and turns looking towards the direction we were headed before. "We need to start moving though. If we hurry we'll make it to the palace before sundown." "Alright sorry." I grab my foot and rub my fingers between my toes just to prove to myself that they are really their. I think about what Kramm had said "Things aren't always what they seem to be." Did he mean that my foot was never actually gone? Oh well for now, my foot is still attached. Then I realize that I was actually starting to be convinced by this dream world. I have to remember that this place isn't even real and in the morning I will wake up and be back in reality. Back in my own boring life with my boring job. I'll have to enjoy this place while it lasts. We walk for what seems like miles. We pass through beautiful fields and more forests like the one I woke up in. A person could get used to living in a paradise like this. Kramm moves quickly through the fields, over brooks and streams, and over giant five foot tall tree roots. After what feels like about four hours we make it to a clearing in front of a big mountain. The mountain has a huge set of stairs that go for a while and eventually let out at a big gate. Beyond the gate is a huge building that kind of looks like a monks palace but somewhat more inviting. We walk up the stairs for a while side by side instead of my trailing about 5 yards behind Kramm like before. "You'll like the King." says Kramm "He's going to put this nation back on track and get us reconnected with Mary! Trust me jake you'll see!" We get to the gate and two creatures stand before us holding spears. They are wearing armor and both look pretty muscular. They are about 7 feet tall, stand like humans, but have faces like rhinos. Their faces are brown and they look fuzzy like they are covered in fur. "What is your business here? And what is that thing you have with you, river- dweller!" One of the rhino looking creatures say "I'm here to see the King." Kramm says "This here is a human, named Jake. I think he is a profit sent down by Mary herself!" "The chosen one? What makes you so certain?" The rhino man says "Don't you see him! He looks like nothing I have ever seen before! Of course he is from another world!" Kramm jumps up and down as he talks. "Very well then." The Rhino turns to his partner and shakes his head. They walk to the side a couple of feet and both pull a giant lever that makes the gate come down. The 20 foot door takes around 30 seconds to completely drop. when it starts to get to my eye level I can see all the other crazy looking creatures of this world and more stairs that lead up to a big building where the King must be. The only way I could describe any of the creatures was a Doctor Suess book. some look like fish, or giant trees and all of them were ridiculous colors. The crazy thing is that they all look at me like i look strange. "Coming through. coming through! We are on business for the king!" Kramm says as he pushes through the crowds of people. We keep walking up stairs until we get to a huge decorative building on top of the hill. The forty foot walls are covered in crystals and windows. The King of Bowls obviously lives very wealthily. Rhino looking guards let us in just as before. We enter a huge room with a golden thrown at the far end straight back. In the chair is another colorful creature. "Who comes before me?" says the King of Bowls. His voice is loud and deep. It isn't exactly scary, more powerful than that. "Kramm of the river." Kramm says to him. Kramm doesn't seem scared at all like I am "Far way to travel hm? Well, state your business river dweller!" The Kings booming voice echoes throughout the room. "I have found well, what I think to be" Kramm pauses for a second "The Chosen One." "Really now?" The king sounds very intrigued. "Come over here human!" I walk down then long room closer to the King's thrown. The King looks like a green monster. He has a golden large crown that sits in-between his ears that are on top of his head. He has a big mouth like an alligator and his nose rests at the end of it. He has many teeth that show when he talks. He sits in his big gorgeous chair but, it looks like he would be about six and a half feet if he stood next to me. He has four fingers on each of his hands with small claws at the end of each of them. "How do you know I'm a human? i ask him "Well because all the Chosen One's are human! We haven't had one in a very long time though!" The King starts to laugh at the end of his sentence I look over to Kramm and say "Other Chosen Ones? You made it sound like I was the only one when we were talking before." "Let the King explain." Kramm says as he sticks his arm out so his hand is flat, points towards the King of Bowls, and bows his head. "Yes, river dweller. You may know the rumors, but I know the true story." The King says. "I will explain everything to you Chosen One. Every once in a while a human is brought over from Earth. This happens because of Mary who is our God. Back in the old days before all the weed was gone there is a part of the story that no one knows. No one knows about Jane." "Jane?" I ask "Yes, Jane. She is Mary's sister and she helped rebuild our broken town long ago with Mary. The reason no one knows about her is because she became evil. As you know, there are no more weed fields which all of the kingdoms, including the Kingdom of Bowls, deserve. Mary was going to give us another chance. Another way to feel at one with the world around us. Jane didn't think that we deserved this second chance and wanted to at first, kill off all the creatures in this land! Mary was able to fight Jane and keep her away from her goals but, at a price. Mary's physical form is gone, and so is Jane's. "So what does this have to do with me?" I ask "Every human is always so impatient!" The King says "Please just let the King explain Jake." says Kramm. He lowers his head after he speaks like he is afraid of the king. "Thank you, so as I was saying. Chosen Ones come here from Earth sometimes after they have smoked. This means Mary sees something in you whether it's courage or who knows! Many of the Chosen Ones aren't even that special and die off very quickly." "What do you mean die off?" I say. I'm getting a little concerned. "Well humans come here from Earth so they can help Mary back into her physical form. They need to make it to Mary's burial place and use their powers to resurrect her but, of course Jane doesn't want this to happen. She creates" He pauses for a moment before continuing. "Obstacles for the humans to face and, no one has ever reached where Mary is." "This is all crazy. You think i really believe all this? I know this is just a dream and I'm going to wake up eventually and be back on Earth." I say and turn to Kramm "This world is beautiful and you have been a great friend to me but I need to get going back to where I'm from." Kramm looks up with a puzzled face "Jake, did you listen to anything the King has said? This place is real! You felt the grass and water! How can you not be convinced that this is real?!" "Let me show you human." The King says in his booming voice. "This will be the first test to see if you are a worthy Chosen One. Concentrate and everything should be alright" I look towards the King and wonder what he is talking about. He lifts his right hand and grabs a sharp sword. The sword has a small metallic looking handle that is no more than five inches and a huge blade that must be several feet. While i stand still admiring the blade the King quickly jumps out of his throne. Instead of being twenty feet back he is right in front of me. It was like a blur of light and then he was right next to me. The King was fast. I feel a sharp pain in my right shoulder. I lose my balance and tip over to my left. I catch myself with my hand on the ground before my body falls completely over, i look to my right and see my arm laying on the ground surrounded by blood. The pain is far from anything i have ever experienced. I hear Kramm cry out "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!" as my vision become blurry. I try to keep my eyes open while balancing myself but it is all to much for me to handle. Everything goes black and then i let my body fall onto the ground. I feel myself hit and escape the pain I was in moments before. © 2013 AlexAuthor's Note
