Chapter 5 Sector Seven

Arriving at Sector Seven first feels like a vacation until a hard decision is brought to the table

I was about to reach the enemy. There seems to be around 15 ships and a couple of specials flying near by. I look behind me and see around 18 of my companions were still alive who could fly. I speed up and shoot fire from my hands catching one of the ships. It starts descending and then explodes because of all the heat around the fuel tank. 

"One down" I think. By this time my allies are making quick work of all the cruisers around us. I put a flame vortex around a ship and watch it fall to the ground. I look back and see all the people around me cheer because we had come together to defeat our attackers. It was nice seeing every one so happy since moral had been down lately. We all flew back, a little less than who had came to help but not much less. As long as the casualties weren't as bad as my groups last mission then we were fine. After around 15 minutes of flying we reached the rest of our comrades. I find the ship that Tori and Otto were on and knock on the window. it opens and I roll back inside. I feel pretty exhausted because of all that has just so quickly happened. Adding not much sleep and not much Qi together was a bad combination. 

Tori hugs me and said excitedly "I'm so glad you made it! You took care of all of them?" 

"Yeah" I replied "Did the other man who was on this ship make it back?" 

"No" replied the man who called us over in the first place. "Haven't seen him." I always felt bad when someone died but, i was also glad it wasn't someone i knew. If it was Tori, or even Otto I'm not sure what i would have done.

"Hey Otto. When we get to Sector Seven you're gonna need to make me another pair of these "Flame resistant" shoes." I say flame resistant with a bit of sarcasm because as i lift them up the burn sole of my right foot falls out. All my other clothes were still intact besides the shoes. 

"Yeah don't worry about it, I'll make a special pair as soon as I'm settled." We fly for another hour or so until we come around the old city of Eastopolis. It was completely abandoned but most of the buildings were still standing. Before the government had forced us to go into a civil war against them this was one of the largest cities in our nation. Now most of the populated cities with people still loyal or at least civil towards the government are all on the West side. Most of our main bases with civilians were located on the East coast. The middle was mostly barren war torn areas. Sometimes there were refugee civilians deciding to change sides. 

The ships came closer to the city until we all see the entrance of Sector Seven open up. Right where the city capitol used to be, there is a giant steel door that lifts up to let cruisers in. Under The city was a hanger area where all our ships could land. This was one of our biggest headquarters to date. There was enough room to easily land around 1000 cruisers. From what i heard, this was a place to hide government officials during times of war. There a base about this large in the north, south, east, and west. Apparently the West must have been the largest one because that's where the government is run out of now. 

We exit the ships and are greeted by a short, clean man with a clip board. He has short blonde hair and wears a nice suit. We all must look like homeless to him in our current condition. 

"Every one listen up!" He had a strong voice for such little stature. "For now until all the warriors are given new team assignments you will all be staying in the refugee rooms. Each has two beds and there are plenty left to fill. In the morning you will all get to talk to Captain Ross. The refugee rooms are on the North wing. There are maps all around so you can all find it easily. Get some good rest! That is all" 

We all walk as a group towards the rooms. There are a couple hundred of us left. Even though this seems like a lot, this Sector makes our old one look like a shack. We reach the rooms and Tori asks 

"Can i room with you please?" She says this with an adorable smile on her face 

"Hey?! What about me!" Otto complains. Otto is a great friend but, I'm kind of in love with Tori. 

"Sorry Otto but she did ask first." 

"I didn't ask because i assumed we would room together!" 

"You know what they say about assuming' Tori chimes in "You make an a*s out of you and me" She sticks her tongue out at the enraged Otto and pushes me into the room.

The room is about 20 feet long and 20 feet wide. Plenty of room, we probably could have added another 4 people comfortably but I'm glad i get to spend some alone time with Tori. There is a Bathroom in-between the two beds with a shower. Tori goes to clean off and i just lay in bed making sparks by snapping. I could probably go for a shower but I'm just too tired. I sit up and wish that there was a window to look out of. Since all of Sector Seven is underground there are no windows anywhere. As I'm laying back down i hear the shower turn off. 

I put my hands behind my head and yell to her "Finally done?' 

"Oh, I'm just trying to look pretty for you!" she replies. I wish this was true but she's only kidding as always. I'm starting to think that i have pretty deep into the friend zone. She comes out wearing a tank top and very shot blue shorts. Her damp hair falls down on her shoulders and around her perfect chest. She smiles at me and sits down on my bed. We talk for hours about how weird its going to be living at Sector Seven in the ground since we both love to be outside. We talk about how we hope to be in the same unit again and how crazy this whole war really is. 

"So, do you remember the day we met?" She says to me with a smile. 

"Of course i do, you were new in school and you kicked my a*s in gym class." I smile back even though I'm not quite sure why. 

"Yeah that was a terrible first impression. I was a jerk and you were a wimp." After she says that she laughs. Even when she's making fun of me i still think she's amazing "You know," Tori says "I really wished you would have asked me to that dance junior year." 

"You mean the one where you went with Sam Grands?" 

"Yeah, well, i only went with him because you took to long to ask me!" I looked at her puzzled 

"Why? you wanted me to ask you?" i asked 

"Of course!' She replied "It seems like every one but you knew i had a huge crush on you!" 

"No way." i say trying to hold back a laugh. "Well how do you feel now?" I put my hand on her leg 

"Well, with the war and everything, i don't think either of us should give into our emotions" She looks me straight in the eyes and moves her head closer to mine "But its so hard" I start to close my eyes and learn my head towards hers. I'm about to get the kiss i have been waiting for all my life.

I hear a knocking at the door. We both open our eyes and look. "News from the Captain, can i come in?" The voice is a woman's.

 "Of course." i answer back as i roll my eyes at Tori. Hopefully the kiss wasn't spur of the moment and we would be able to talk about it later. 

"The Captain would like to see you right now Mr.Conway." The messenger stated. I wonder what he wanted to see me at this hour for. I looked at the clock and realized that it was already eight in the morning. So much for sleeping even though i would rather talk to Tori than sleep any night. 

"Yes of course, is it classified or can Tori come along?" "Yes its fine as long as it stays between you two."

We followed him down hall way after hall way. It was neat that Sector Seven was so big but trying to get anywhere that wasn't right off the main hall highway took forever. After a while of walking we reached some stairs. 

"You'll have to travel this alone" The messenger informed us. 

"Thank you" I replied with a nod.

 "I wonder what he wants with you!" Tori said with a puzzled look on her face. I was wondering too but i didn't reply as we walked the stairs. I knew I was pretty high up in chain of command just because of seniority at my old head quarters. Hopefully Captain Ross didn't want me to lead an entire unit. Whatever he was about to ask i was eager to find out. 

We knock on the door and hear a very deep voice mutter "Come in, i have been expecting you" We open the door and see Captain Ross sitting in a chair behind a big desk. He is a big man who has a long black beard. If he had an eye patch he would look just like a pirate. He had a view scares on his face but none that touched his eyes

"Mr. Conway." 

"You can call me Austin" I replied 

"Mr. Conway." He said back to me. Apparently he was a formal man. I decide that i don't want to anger him so ill wait until he finishes. "Recently here at Sector Seven we have capture a Spec Ops Leader during our last battle in the west region of the unforgiving lands" By that he must have meant the dead zone in between the governments land and our land "We have had him here under close watch and have learned much about him and the governments plans. However we still don't know who is the leader behind the entire government force." 

"What does this have to do with me?" I reply. I though I had decided to wait until he was finished but i guess my brain was scared. 

"I was getting to that before i was interrupted. Now here at Sector Seven we are gifted with many powerful specials. One of which is Doctor John Smith. Have you heard of him?" I shook my head sideways "He can change to look like anyone he comes in contact with. More recently he has learned to use his ability on other people. He could say, make you look like me for a fixed amount of time. No one can detect it even the most gifted Special trackers." 

"I'm still not quite sure what this has to do with Austin!" Tori yells out. Even though i think we both know where this is going. 

"Apparently folks at Sector Nine were not taught manners." 

"I'm sorry Captain." Tori points her head down at the ground 

"Now as i was saying. We have heard great things about you Mr. Conway. We want you to switch places with this Spec Ops leader. After that we want to send you behind enemy lines so you can figure out who's responsible for this war." 

It takes me a second to comprehend what was just said. This sounds extremely dangerous but, vital to the war in the end. 

"What's his ability?' i ask 

"He can use telekinesis and has an extraordinary memory." 

"I'm still not sure if i'm all for this though" Tori looks at me with a blank expression. I know she's worried for my safety. 

"Well since you're not in any of my units yet its still your decision" Captain Ross says "But i expect an answer later in the day." I nod and we both solute him. As we walk out of the office I'm completely puzzled as to what to do.

you need to slow down a little. i tend to rush too when I am writing my story, I want to get it out, and usually, it takes a much longer time than i intended. I use this comparison to help me describe. when you get to a part where there is somthing big going on, make it like light through a prism, break it into a rainbow, then let it go out of the prism, and back to plain old light. sorry, i didn't describe that very well, but you know what I mean, right?

shep has given u good advice. i did like the exchange between austin and tori this time...take time to bring their relationship to the forefront...makes it more interesting.

Ok let's talk about character diolog. You need to seprate each character one by one giving the each their own line. So we the reader can know who is speaking when. Right know they are on the same line. Jumbling words on top of each other. Again white space is needed here. If needed examples you can read my series what's behind the looking glass. Or any of my friends work that you will find on my comments page. They are also good about returning the favor.

I used to be like you when I first started writing. People would tell me that I was doing the very samethings that I am telling you. I thought I was right until I was proven wrong And learned from my mistakes with the help of other writers. So I know what I am talking about. You may have a good story to read,but it could be even better with these changes.

Ok I have harped on it enough moving on to the next chapter. Oh I am also writing a first person bio titled My life and how it has changed me. I don't write in first person except for my bio.

much, much better it has improved 100% I can now read it without any trouble. Awesome. It improved so much I willing to start over to get the real feel of the story.

i haven't done all of the chapters honestly ill just made did a couple because i wanted to go back for content and remember what i was wiring about but i think ill redo the whole thing now thank you so much!

Feels a little rushed but I really like the story behind this. With just a little polishing this will be a great piece! Great job!

An interesting turn in this chapter, but I find parts of this (in the middle) to be a little forced. I think you're rushing to much. It's so tempting to just write it all down in a session, and there is some great usefulness in that to get it all out while it's in your head. However, you really need to go back and read it all over to make sure it's your best quality before you put it out there. I'm curious, do you edit or rewrite these much before you put them out?
