A Recurring Nightmare

A Recurring Nightmare

A Story by Ennay

This one is for me..

A young girl, merely a few years old stood, gazing out of the window of her home in Louisiana. She watched silently as her mother drove off to work. Without her.

She had begged her mother a few hours earlier to not leave her behind. But she didn’t have a choice. The girl knew this.

But so did he.

The girl’s mother left the girl with her boyfriend at the time. It wasn’t the first time that this had happened. The girl had quietly observed and learned about the kind of person that he truly was. Because of this she decided to try and keep as much distance as she could from him.

The girl’s head suddenly snapped up as she heard a banging sound coming from her mother’s room. That’s where he was.. She immediately left her toys by the window and ran over towards the couch. Ducking and hiding behind it.

She covered her ears when he began to yell. Loud noises never settled well with her. She stayed there even as he opened the door to the other room. She knew what he wanted. But she didn’t want to give it to him.

She couldn’t let him win.

But before she could even get up, he grabbed her by the arm and dragged her into the room he was previously in. He threw her in and shut the door on her. Locking her inside.

The girl tried to control her breathing to keep herself from sobbing. He hated tears. She couldn’t let him see her upset. She began to pace back and forth as her panic began to rise.

Then she froze. Hearing him shout from another room. She knew where he was. She knew why he was there. What he was there to get. And she knew he would be coming back.

And she couldn’t stop him.

He yelled at her as he made his way through the house, saying that.. “Once I come back you better be sitting on that damn bed!”

Out of fear.. She did as he had demanded. She climbed up onto the bed and waited for him. Waited for her demise. Waited for the nightmare that she could barely even understand herself.

She was just a kid.

Her heart skipped a beat. And then another. Watching as he entered the room. Closing and locking the door behind him. He carried a box over to the bed. Setting it in front of where she sat. Right between her legs. He then grabbed her, forcing her head to look over the box and stare at what was inside.

And that’s when I woke up.

Seventeen years later.
