The CellistA Story by EnnaySomething that crossed my mind once again today. The Cellist ___________________________ I sat within the orchestra feeling more ostracized than ever before. Though of course it wasn’t their fault. I was a different kind of musician than them.. And they’ve never heard me perform before. Nerves were bound to be up… After the rehearsal we all had extra time to spare. I walked to the back of the room, beginning to take my instrument apart. Swabbing each piece of it out before finally letting it rest in its case. I jump up slightly at the sound of someone’s voice. It seemed I wasn’t entirely awake. I had a long night beforehand.. A cello player had walked up to me and began asking me about songs I could play. I checked the time and figured, “Why not?” as I put my clarinet quickly back together. I played a few pieces that I had memorized from years before. Earning some claps and some stares. But the cello player continued to ask me about different things until eventually we had to leave. That was when he complimented me. It wasn’t something I thought often about but I hadn’t ever really spoken to this person before. Perhaps they were just being nice. Then after a few moments he commented on how red my face was. And usually I would say, “My face is always red.” Cause I tended to get sunburnt a lot. But I knew that wasn’t the case this time. So I merely blamed it on my lack of air while playing my instrument and then left in a hurry. It was odd. But perhaps also nice? Or maybe my lack of sleep had finally caught up with me. I wouldn’t be surprised.. © 2024 Ennay |
