It Could've Been You

It Could've Been You

A Poem by Ennay

But they both knew by the morning, that they would both become somebody else new. I don't think they realized, the words they were searching for were, "It could've been you."

It Could've Been You
________________________

Sitting by the window,
was the girl of your dreams.

The things you had wished to say,
were not what it seemed.

But now here in the morning,
you noticed that there was something wrong.

This girl you had grown up with,
will be gone by tomorrow at dawn.

Standing by the door,
was the boy who could never read.

He struggled to the find words,
the ones to not make you go leave.

She waited and waited,
for him to make the excuse.

But they both knew by the morning,
that they would both become somebody else new.

I don't think they realized,
the words they were searching for were,

"It could've been you."

Throughout their life,
the boy had the happiest life.

The girl knew this and used this,
to be her excuse.

And she was gone by the light,
on the morning where she had might,

followed her truth.

Sooner or later,
the boy had also soon gone.

Sooner and sooner,
the life had faded from his view.

Somewhere in the night,
he had taken his own life.

And he was gone by the light,
following his dreams.

They met soon enough,
in the afterlife,
where they could speak once more.

They had finally said the words,
that they were yearning for once more.

If you had stayed by light,
"it could've been you."
