Just a Man

Sometimes we get so carried away with these expectations.

We forget we are only human.

We can’t be everything for everyone.

It just isn’t possible.

Yet we try to do this anyway.

As musicians, we want to sound perfect.

We work to impress.

That’s just who we are.

But we will never be perfect.

We are only human.

You may never find that perfect tone.

You may never impress the people you want.

You are just a man.

You can practice for 12 hours a day.

For 7 days a week.

And still fail.

Because you expect too much from yourself.

You don’t need to be perfect.

And you may never find that tone.

But that’s okay.

Because you have still learned so much.

It may not be said much.

But there are many people who are proud of you.

They are impressed with the amount of work that you put in.

Some judges may never get to see that.

But the rest of us do.

You are drowning within your own expectations.

You need these reminders.

The reminder that you are incredible at what you do.

I have had no doubt in that.

I’ve told you this once before.

And here is your written reminder.

You are very talented at the things you do.

Many people overlook this.

Which I think is stupid because you do all of these things at once.

That is stressful.

That is a difficult amount of pressure.

Yet you succeed at it anyway.

That show last night was amazing.

I have never seen anything like it.

All of you exceeded the expectations that everyone had placed.

You are far greater than you think you are.

Remember that.
