Say No To The Moon!

Say No To The Moon!

A Poem by AJNJ
"

Its not all pretty

"
Mistress of guile
Dark side concealed
With deft sorcery
Deceptive her
'Sea of Tranquility'
With malice
she spawns subterfuge
in moonstruck hearts
Driving lovers to
the edges of sheer lunacy
Serenading the wolves
till they howl for her
with eerie lust
feeding her vainglory
With spite
she evokes tempests
in earthly seas
With treachery
she waxes and wanes
her gibbous face
an ode to occult
and aced witchery
Stop singing paeans
to the moon
She is but a piece
of pure, celestial devilry

Hi AJNJ! I just thought this poem very different from most other poetry I have read on the moon. Its definitely not conventional to say the least. And a reader like me would term it fascinating. In literature worldwide, the moon has come to symbolize everything pious and nice and definitely beautiful. Read any classic poetry and you'll find oodles of evidence to the general poetic approach. I, personally, do not recall any masterpieces to the contrary. So your slashing the pristine image to bits here comes as a bit of shock and teeny weeny dismay but it doesn't distract from this poems uniqueness and entertainment value. I'd say, come on, we need a different viewpoint, something not so run-of-the-mill. And this poetry is a fine example of that. So overall I felt happy reading something new. Keep giving us different poetry. Thank you.

The Moon often shows me her better sides, but one can both drunk and blind for so long before recognizing the nuances that lie underneath such a pretty face. (Quite ironic for a comment since my profile picture is literally a viewing of the Moon)
But even so the Moon is a temptress, her wicked deeds and forged tales are fascinating from a story dweller standpoint, she is truly the mistress of tghe night - being caring and cruel whenever she likes, how scary of a thought to see the Moon be enraged.
It has been an enchanted read, author AJNJ, I liked it very much when the objects of beauty are depicted as having a more wicked and darker side, and an eloquently poem put too.

The dark side of the moon.
Your tongue-in-cheek hides a cheeky tongue.
Excellent!

I always keep thinking where next sir... :)
Thanks a ton for the great comment!
That's a winner, the only problem is that we are stuck with her, but things could potentially be much worse if there was no moon, devilry or no

Sounds like you are 'mooning' the moon with this poem, and it's a very interesting contrast on the abundance of lunar poems that one comes across on many writing sites. To take the always romantic viewpoint of the moon and turn it on its head is an inspired piece of creativity. It's always best to be creatively original and your poem; its language and description, does that so well. 💛

reminds me of a part of Romeo and Juliet when she says..."oh, swear not by the moon, inconstant moon that nightly changes in her circled orb"---And she seems to watch over us with such romantic intentions!

As a moon child (astrologically) & a moon worshiper in verse, your poem immediately slapped me across the face & made me wonder why I never thought to portray the moon as evil, given all the moon poems & halloween poems I've penned! I love how you portray the obvious but hidden link between the moon (this month being special becuz there are 2 full moons, the harvest moon & a blue moon!) & all the spooky shenanigans that happen between now & the big blue. I love how you pull out all the stops with strong & creepy imagery! Love this poem! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
