Hair TodayA Poem by AJNJHow sweet strains sourLove is hair today gone tomorrow It was copious once Springing in youth threaded with
daisies and orange blossoms Unknown, the sparseness of seasons that lay
ahead or the lice of indifference that nibble away its
roots Sweat and toil just burnished it some
more as two heads met in fragrant, flowing
places And beauty was
beheld even in tousled
disarray Till the disquieting
days of grey swept in ruffling sleek certainty with slovenly doubt Faith’s tresses clipped Replaced by the
fear of fall The buoyance fell
flat and we assumed colors from black to
burgundy But the colors leached
out The ‘perms’ never
lasted And bleached hope never revived in steamy
salons Wispy and worn we
were left thumbing for
passion in 50 shades of grey © 2020 AJNJAuthor's Note
