He babbles away to the moon

He babbles away to the moon

A Poem by AJNJ
"

The mad poet

"
He babbles away to the moon

moonlight infests him
its pallor driving him insane

He grapples with its coolness
his mind rumpled with pain

The night akin to a curse
invokes urges in him profane

he stands spitting at the wind
that returns with sharp disdain

smacking his crusty, wrathful mouth
spewing unholy quatrains

with his own drool wandering
down his matted beard again

He babbles away to the moon

Not a shred of romance here. Makes a change from the usual moonlight and love scenes. This guy is haunted by the moonlight. Cursed by it. No wonder he is uttering his own profanities. No howling wolves, just a mad poet here doing his own thing.

Tho I'm guilty of penning a plethora of swirly-sweet moon poems, I'm always most pleased when a writer smashes such expectations, redefining an oft-used symbol like the moon. The reason this makes so much more sense than the romantic moon ramble -- most are indeed in such a tortured state when howling to the moon. I love "babbles away" combined with the many twisted specifics you spill, it makes for a nicely torqued reading which reflects our garden variety midnight angst (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I too have babbled away at the moon. There is such a sense of longing here, and change... well done. Usually I find rhyme distracting, but you did a good job of using it to enhance the piece, rather than become something that takes away from it. Really enjoyed this.

Love it, bro. Had a pretty heavy weekend myself. Just starting to write about it now.
Visceral poetry about descending into feral madness. This could completely become part of a longer story. Nice work.

If ever you’re in New Delhi, just let me know. Dinner at the fanciest joint is on me.
This reminds me of someone turning into a werewolf. The babbling at the moon. It’s just what came to mind as I read it. Great descriptions
