You cannot wish it away

You cannot wish it away

A Poem by AJNJ

You cannot wish it away

That elbow of reality
sharply nudging your dreams

Those ugly stains of the past
still smudging your sleeve

The sore on your skin
that itches for a remedy

You cannot wish it away

The word left unaddressed
weeping upon the page

till you find it a poem
to treasure and to keep

Us, who love to write. Like Mr. Hemingway. We must bleed to the paper. All of us make many mistakes and if we are lucky. We become kinder and softer on the people near. I enjoyed your honest thoughts my friend. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Being a survivor of years of childhood abuse myself, I am here to say that this is 100% true, you can't wish it away, nor blame God or whatever . . . and even more, to own one's complete existence (good, bad, & ugly) is the only way (in my opinion) to regularly enjoy the utmost of openness in one's writing. Self-truth is the basis of authenticity, even when not writing about one's pain. I love how the end of your poem ties it up nicely in a circle of logic (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

"Unaddressed words" truly do haunt poets.

you are so darn write Pj…. I have a job lot of guilt backing up and needing to be processed and filed .. there are other topics too by the way... the simple straightforwardness of these words is what gives it the kick we addicts crave....

We must have thick skin and accepting nature with creative unstoppable mind if we truly cherish to be a worthy writer, scribbler, creator. Cloaking the glitches will only initiate egoistic fungus on our writings. True piece penned here, be blessed. :)

Indeed. We cannot wish away our experiences. They influence the way we feel and write. We might as well use our experiences in our writings.
