I’m Checking My Skills

Who do you think you’re bluffing?

When your English writing
is such a hopeless wreck
that you make excuses for it
and call it a ‘skilling check’

and you bluff that you’re testing
your pen before the exam
a little less of such fibbing
would surely do you no harm

Where is the talent or the skill
when the whole writing is crap
just fake and full of holes
your knuckles do need a rap

writing is a way too sacred skill
not meant for self-obsessed morons
you cant become a poet
by punching keys on your phone

And you dont become a bard
by vomitting big words on a page
by filching from a thesaurus
no one ever became a sage

This world is stupid and daft
that just watches and gapes
as you bludgeon this sacred art
and heinously commit its rape

So when on your mistakes
a good reader calls you out
they know you are full of s**t
they know what you’re all about

Nothing wrong with a learning curve, but you're right, a lot of folk need to check their skills. Syntax, punctuation and silly spelling errors apart, (which evidence only a basic ignorance of our language,) there are so many who have no idea at all how to write a good poem, or construct a decent, stay on point, piece of prose. Ooohh, and don't the little darlings get their knickers in a twist when they're called out.

Lost count of the number of times I've started to read a piece, then thought, nah, this is s**t and not worth the bother.
