Fall is the Thirteenth Labor

Fall is the Thirteenth Labor

A Poem by Arrianna
"

A simple poem I wrote to express how hard keeping my composure is around this person I like.

"
The leaves shower the ground
Garnishing the wind
With gold and copper buttons
Invisible ribbons twist and bend

Crunch! Crunch! Crunch!
The leaves, our heels will break!
Your hair is whipped by the wind as you smile at me
My cheeks warm--not from the cold, I start to shake

It is not yet frigid, but I miss the warmth
Of Summer's lovely embrace
You accept the cold, flexible
I am persuaded by the grin on your face

Come and play!
I think I'll pass...
You know you want to!
Well, since you asked...

We jump into crispy, copper hills
Rolling, laughing, forgetting time
I blink twice, and sure enough
Your face hovers over mine

The world around us fades away
What was gold is now oil black
I stare up at you with innocent eyes,
Wondering if you'll lean back

Keeping my composure is the Thirteenth Labor
It's best if you didn't know of my desires
You stay right where you are, to my dismay
Doing nothing to extinguish the fire

You begin to lean down, and I freeze
What are you planning to do?
Are we living out my fantasies, I wonder?
My dreams of kissing you?

I lay frozen on the ground,
Too terribly awed and lovestruck to see
That you were reaching for my hair,
Looking for a stray leaf

It must have gotten stuck, you say
Soon after, you pull us off the ground
You turn and begin the journey home,
Tossing away the leaf you found

Stuttering, trembling
I race to catch up with you
You left me utterly flustered
From our little autumn rendezvous

I finally get a hold of your shoulder
You apologize for our previous predicament
I brush it off and I see you smile
The opposite of innocent

We reach my door shortly after
I hurry with my keys
You take my free hand, your farewell brushes my ear
I shudder as you take your leave
Your sweet laughter is the last thing I hear
