The fact that my fellow conservatives and Trump supporters wouldn't like it, I went forward and shared my take on Roe v. Wade on "Final Thoughts." Why? Because I am always true to my beliefs despite the party line. In my opinion, pressing for a Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade would be a huge mistake. Yes, the new high court vacancy was a huge opportunity for conservative values and principles. I got it. And i understood the passion behind the pro-life movement, but still, to me it was a mistake to use conservatives' power and pull to challenge a decision that polls showed most Americans supported. In general, we lose when we start tampering with social issues and overturning this one is unlikely to succeed. Legal tradition makes it harder to overturn a past decision unless there are strong grounds for doing so and a departure from precedent like Roe v. Wade, which has since been upheld up by many other cases, is even harder to come by. Fighting for this and alienating Democrats, moderates, and libertarians only to lose in the end was a risk that I didnt think was worth taking. And i was saying this as someone who personally choose life but also feels like it isn't the governments place to dictate. I ended that "Final Thoughts" by saying that I believe the way to encourage anyone to choose life is to treat her with compassion, understanding, and love -- not government regulation.
