I have loved

A poem that expresses what I have failed to tell

I have loved, and I have been betrayed

A stab in the heart that truly hurt

I thought I was good enough

I thought I was enough

Clearly, I didn’t even matter

He was no angel

He was no saint

He was no good

I loved a devil

I helped him master his plans

I directed his scheme

I had the starring role

I fell and I blamed myself

He hurt me, and I said it’s okay

I helped him play his game

I fell for his traps

He sat on the sidelines

He watched me fall apart

He watched me toss my heart in the air

He watched me fail to catch my heart

He watched me as I bled

He watched me as I slowly died

He told me he’d be there

He told me that it’s all going to be okay

He had me hanging on false hope

He had me caught at the I love yous

I got the role

I acted well

I learned the game

I mastered the tricks

And yet, the joke was on me

I watched him as he laughed

I watched him as he smiled

I watched him as he lied

I watched him as betrayed

I watched him as he said goodbye

I watched him as he left

I watched him as he walked away

I watched him as he let go

I watched him as he broke my heart

I watched him as he let go of my hand

Our fingers slid apart

I watched him as he stood up

He watched me as I fell apart

I watched the smile creep up his face

He watched the tears run down my cheeks

I watched him as he left for good

He watched me as I stayed behind

He watched me as I cried

He watched me and left without a goodbye.
