The Balloon

The Balloon

A Poem by Aleks Edwin
"

To anyone being pulled along through life, with the hope of cutting the strings keeping you down.

"

You fixed a string to keep me down; your every move I bowed

Down the path I didn't want, further into the crowd.

Although I fly above you all, It isn't high enough,

I could be so much higher, If I was not your cuff.

I long for the sky. Cant you feel me pulling away?

I beg and tug and pull, but to you it's just the breeze,

I wish I had a voice in me, so you could hear my pleas.

Please untie this cord and let me fly into the distance.

If I don't rise to greater heights, you'll never know my brilliance.

I'm capable of more than you, who likes it on the ground.

Much more lies in store for me, up in the blue and cloud.

I'm sick of bouncing after you, so bitter I could burst.

I'm what you thought you needed. What you thought you'd want.

I hoped to bring you happiness, but it was all for naught.

The twist around your wrist isn't strong enough for two.

Now I will say goodbye and you will let me start anew.

So please cut the string and finally let me be.

I'll show you everything about being free.

Very symbolic in so many ways... Lovely writing, my favorite line was: ''I'm sick of bouncing after you, so bitter I could burst.'' We've all been there...

Thank you so much! Glad you liked it :D
There's definitely a longing to be weightless - to live without the burden of someone else pinning you in a corner. It almost made my heart break. For a moment, I felt like I could just reach out with scissors and cut the chord, but unfortunately, no one else can do that. And I think that's what made this poem hit home, y'know? It's a very nicely written piece. And to think you've crafted such a serious piece around a whimsical object, now that's talent!

Thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to read it :)
This was different, but in a good way.
You where like using the balloon as like a person.
Describing how a balloon would feel if, it could feel haha, to how some people may feel sometimes.
Tied down, just wanting to be free.
You get major points for creativity.
Loved this :)

Ah, this makes me think of so many things. It reminds me of someone I dated 4 times, who kept me from really getting anywhere in life until I finally broke free. This was really well written. :)
