To My Ex

To My Ex

A Poem by Rose Black
"

When your eyes became cold, And your body went rigid, I should have left.

"

When your eyes became cold,

And your body went rigid,

I should have left.

There were warning sings,

But I closed my eyes

Over and over again.

Wishing it to be different.

You played your part well,

Though I flunked the course.

All I wish is that

Now we could start anew.

Take back our sharp tongues

And bring back our conversations

At 3am in the morning,

Glass of red wine in hand.

Its all I can remember

That was real and un rehearsed.

There were flickers in

Your outstanding performance

That showed you were good.

That showed you could

Learn to love again.

I just wish they could

Have lit up, take over you.

But those flickers died,

And your darkness

Became my only companion.

By the end, more blood

Was spilled than we

Even originally had.

The fire in your laughed disappeared,

And all proof od humanity

Drifted out the window,

Along with your cigarette smoke.

In the end,

You became your own enemy.
