Little Girl

Little Girl

A Poem by Rose Black
"

Little girl, She held my hand. One, two, three fingers Wrapped around my thumb One more and you’re safe.

"

Little girl,

She held my hand.

One, two, three fingers

Wrapped around my thumb

One more and you’re safe.

I told her

“You’ll be good,

You’ll be pure”

Because I could

See the well reflected

Lights in her eyes.

She’s letting go,

But no,

I wont let her.

This little girl

Is what keeps the

World all right.

I tell her

“Stay still

Stay strong”

But she doesn’t

Hear me.

She wants to

Let go.

But my thumb

Is cold

Without her.

But she doesn’t know this.

One, two, three

Fingers weakening.

She’s ready

And I’m not.
