Alexander HaMasheach

Alexander HaMasheach

A Poem by Abdul Batin Osman Bey
"

Inspired by the Book of Maccabees

"

Alexander son of Zeus

A mortal man who achieved godhood

Bent the will of men

Conqueror, benefactor, a leader above all leaders

In your short life your hand stretched out and held the world

Hailed as a king

Hailed as a god

Your name will live on forever

A modern human among primitive animals

Thrice great you were, you are

Alexander son of YHVH

Mighty is your name

Knees bent before you

Slaves and royalty alike

None could lay a hand on you

Providence seemed to smile on you

Until the flu entered your honorable body

Bringing you down to the door of death

O Alexander

You did not fear

Yah smiled

With his hands he lifted you up to paradise

The garden of constant blooming sun

Hail Alexander

Forerunner of he who was to come

A prefigure of the Kingly Lion of Judah

Alexander

Your name shall live on forever

A constant light among the darkness

You live forever
