What If My Colour is Black?A Poem by ABDUL WAHABThis poem is based on the feelings of black people who have experienced racial discrimination. What if my colour is black? I am a human being like you. I have same heart, feelings and respect which is understood by few Why do you ignore me because of my colour? Don’t I belong to this earth or do I belong to another? You deprive me the basic right to live with dignity in society Every hour and every day I am forced to live in anxiety Why we blacks are often considered as inferior to the whites? Everywhere in this world we live in deplorable plights. When the Maker himself didn’t differentiate, who are you to do it? On every occasion, in every matter of importance you want us to omit. You think you are the sole proprietor of this earth As if, we were dropped from somewhere and are of no worth. Why hate crimes on blacks are on the rise? Don’t you see the woes of the black and hear their cries? Why do you feel threatened by our existence? When we have not showed any kind of resistance. The Birmingham bombing and Tulsa race massacre are scars on humanity It symbolizes the ugliest face of white’s criminality I do not want to blame all the whites for evil deeds of few Let us build a world free from racism and exploitations which will be
unique and new. © 2022 ABDUL WAHAB |
