The Great Martyr Sangolli RayannaA Poem by ABDUL WAHABThis poem is on the great martyr Sangolli Rayanna. He was the army chief of the erstwhile Kittur kingdom ruled by Rani Chennamma. He fought against the British who hanged him from a banyan tree.Sangolli Rayanna the name itself sends shivers down British spine In the annals of history his exploits against colonial will always
shine. He wished to free mother land from the white man’s yoke The daring son of soil used to
kill enemies in a single stroke. Seven feet tall Rayanna was an ardent follower of Kittur Rani Channamma For English man his guerrilla warfare techniques was a perplexing enigma He was an expert in military warfare and strategy In a battle he was not just an ordinary soldier but fearful prodigy. He was a daredevil and lion heart from
the Kuruba community Who always focused and stressed for the regional unity For the cruel and wicked zamindars he was a nightmare He was a good Samaritan whom they had an intense scare . The enemies couldn't capture Rayanna in a fair and square He was caught treacherously which was so unfair Rayanna was executed by hanging from a banyan tree He left this world with dream of making his country free. Sangolli Rayanna will always remain in our heart Indian freedom struggle will be glowing mentioning his part Till the end of civilization your glory will be upheld Your bravery and sacrifice will
remain largely unparalleled. © 2021 ABDUL WAHAB |
