CHANU A Poem by Abdul Wahab Khanapur Gathering the woods at
the jungle made you strong Lifting and carrying it
on the head better than your brothers who had come along. The roads were not easy
for you to cross; hurdles were everywhere and at every hour The life in poverty tested,
laughed, teased, and made you a dour. The travel in trucks taught
you how to adjust in life This was the beginning
and a time which you never had any strife. Your mentor Kunjarani honed your skill in
weightlifting Neither archery nor any
other game she would like you drifting. After the fiasco at Rio
You felt annoyed with yourself and was deeply shattered You wanted to leave the
game and were seriously tattered. Your critiques laughed
and scorned the performance rigorously But you did not deter
and wanted to prove your critiques wrong vociferously. You proved your prowess
in the Olympic Games With lot of enthusiasm
you made a resounding proclaims. After a long wait of
twenty one year you broke a record The sweet silver was your
hard earned reward. © 2021 ABDUL WAHAB |
