A Poem by Abdul Wahab Khanapur When your brethren were in deep slumbers you woke up When they were voiceless, you raised your voice. You knew and suffered all the pains since young age Nobody to heal the wounds neither a man nor a sage. You suffered silently the humiliations in school The gunny bag was your seat of learning and the
books were the only tool. Never were you allowed to drink water from the taps
or mug The peon parched the upturned mouths for your own
smug. With a help of your patron you earned degrees in
abroad Nobody has treaded the herculean path which you did
with applaud. Your stay in the western world taught you no man is
an untouchable While your own people failed to accept this and for
them it was unimaginable. The burning of scripture was the sign of revolt For many it was bolt from the blue and for others a big
jolt. You dreamt of a casteless society where everyone can
live equally Alas! That dream shattered, it remained a dream mournfully. You turned to Buddhist philosophy which gave some
solace Your actions angered the critiques but for some the
decision was flawless. You became the voice of Buddha and got the mental
and moral relief You left the world, the people and all your admirers
in grief. © 2021 ABDUL WAHABReviews
