TAJ MAHAL �" A SYMBOL OF LOVE

                                     A POEM BY ABDUL WAHAB KHANAPUR

Standing at the bank of Yamuna when I had your first glimpse

I understood why you are referred as the symbol of love.

Draped in white marble and standing elegantly in the midst of serenity and greenery

You dazzle the eyes of the one who visits you.

 

From pink delight in the morning, the milky white shade soothes in the evening

The golden look illuminates the night, what joy you bring to the sight.

You are a testament of immortal love, of sacrifice and of heavenly beauty

Thousands throng to bear witness to the celestial unity.

 

You are crowned as the palace of the palaces

You are a wonder of wonders in the world.

Never can we find such a resemblance in architectural symmetry

Nor we have come across a monument as mesmerising and lofty.

 

Beautified with the marbles of Makarana and the bulbous dome at the top

The minarets speak of the grandeur and the Arabian carnelian symbolises your royalty

The fantabulous decoration of the walls with Quranic verses gives you a revered vista

The unembellished cenotaphs that you have, suggest the mortality of the human beings.

 

Down the cenotaphs lays Mumtaz and Shahjahan

You bear witness to their eternal love

Whenever the world speaks of love and the lover

You flash before them and they will forget never.
