Daddy's Lullaby

In the peace of night we see,
asleep in your pink bedroom.
How precious are our memories,
tied with twine in bloom.

I never fail to mention,
what dreams I have for you.
But here this night with lullabies,
I pray they all come true.

Your heart is the guiding light,
let it shine and help you through.
And carry you through life each day,
brightly shining to protect you.

I hope one day you'll see,
what love I have for you.
And know I'll be your backbone,
for all you choose to do.

I hope you know this,
tonight as you lay asleep.
how much your father loves you,
with a love so pure and deep.

So sleep tonight so soundly,
and dream of wondrous things,
So tomorrow your dreams come true,
with each morning, a new day brings.

Author's Note

I wrote this poem on a napkin in the hospital cafeteria the day my daughter was born. She has inspired me so much, even though she was born only two short years ago. She is my inspiration and definitely the drive that pushes me forward.
