Broken Walls;

Broken Walls;

A Poem by C.

I swore I’d never come undone

Never let anyone in

But look at what you’ve done

You broke down my walls

Like it was paper

I still don’t know how

You managed it

I guess it’s because

You’re arms kept me safer than those walls

But now I’m standing in a broken down room

And the wind blows through

And chills me to the bone

‘Cause your arms aren’t my safe harbor

They’re long gone

I don’t know why I’d thought you’d save the day

You always meant to walk away

The bitter cold stings

And I fall to the ground

Searching for a bit of shelter

Searching for these broken pieces of me

Rebuilding those walls was my goal

Until I stopped searching for myself long enough

To look up

I saw you there, standing in the distance

Looking back at me

And I realized

You always were the best part of me

So I’m breaking down these half rebuilt walls

And running to you

‘Cause you are mine

Even if I’m not yours
