When I'm GoneA Poem by Kaitlin W. Blaylock
Lay me down six feet under
Beside the only father I've ever known Put me in my favorite red gown You know the one, it matches my nails. Run the comb through my hair, not that it needs it. As you prepare to lay to rest the loneliest girl. My friends may take any keepsake they wish They deserve my things more than I ever did. I know my third death is decades away and I'm okay with that. But the first is done and the second soon to follow. I finally won some peace. Cry for me if it helps, though my final tears did me no good. Know that I loved Deeply and dearly Each of you who shake yourselves in the shock of my absence. I know the wonder of your minds: Was he the cause of this, my tragedy? No. I did this because I saw no way out. I knew I'd never be truly happy again. The brief happiness I did know was stolen from me. So lay me down six feet under by the only father I've ever known. Because I already see him, Waiting for me like he always did. And we walk hand in hand to our forever home. Its about time.
