Perhaps

A metaphorical piece on my feelings when I was beginning a new chapter of my life.

Cheerful sounds chime in your ears as you walk, taking one step after another on a road that you wish would come to an end. Legs victimized by fatigue never cease as the hope within your veins continues to refuel them. There are people in front of you, behind you and beside you, all moving forward. You watch as they lean on to each other, exhaling tiresome sighs only to be replaced by joyful laughs; perhaps it is a facade, perhaps they are also battling with their thoughts.

Just before you are on the verge of abandoning the hope that this journey will end, you see a turn. It seems as if all your wishes have been fulfilled, as if you have discovered an escape for all those heart-wrenching, cruel thoughts that circled your mind and restrained your smile. So you walk towards the turn, leaving some of those you know behind and accompanied by some of those who have just become familiar with you.

Your heart looks forward to this journey. It pumps with excitement and nerves and everything bitter-sweet conquers your thoughts. Perhaps you will find someone to lean on, perhaps you will have to walk this path alone. Perhaps when this journey ends, you will be a better version of yourself. Perhaps you will be destroyed.

Author's Note

Wrote this almost 2 years ago and returned to this website after 3 years, I think. It feels good to be back. And now that this journey is ending as well, perhaps I have become a better version of myself.
