After The Bonfire

After The Bonfire

A Poem by Megan
"

s'mores do a wonderful thing to the soul and mind

"

Knuckles and fingertips

Worn from working

Callused hands

That hold my hips

While kisses appear

Soft on my lips

There's just something about you

That catches my soul

Like nothing else

Maybe it's your kindness

It blazes in your eyes

Maybe it's the way you see beautiful things

Like no one else

Maybe it's just this night

Sitting in your lap

By the firelight

Watching our shadows dance together

Like our hearts

I know this is right

Despite all the times

I've done nothing but fight

Denying your love for me

Trying to keep myself from getting hurt

By imagining the worst

And putting up walls

Cause I have problems with trust,

And here I sit

Smoking a lovely cigarette

Thinking of all this

After we've said goodbye,

So for the record

Despite all the things I do

To try to push you away

I do love you

A good poem here. You captured the feeling of not wanting to open old wounds again. It is so hard to move on with our lives after we have been hurt tremendously by someone we love. I often wonder how much blessings we miss by our inability to forgive and forget and to move on to another joy the Lord has for us. I loved the imagery of the campfire and sitting on the boyfriend's lap. It kind of brought me back to the times of church camp and the like.
Good write here!!!!

the poem catches the baggage that always comes along with you no matter where you depart from or arrive at; and love always pays a price. but love sometimes has the power to toss some of that baggage overboard. but not always. time will tell. i like your poem.

Denying love will hurt more later on when you are wrestling with what if... If you don't take a chance you will never know.
