When upon your mind trouble lays

When upon your mind trouble lays

A Poem by Firestone Feinberg

When upon your mind trouble lays
Its shadow and all you see is loss
Of love and life -- and dreadful days
Lie like broken blankets all across

The lonely landscape of living
And no one is blaming anyone
For this misfortune -- and no one
Can even think of forgiving --

Because your suffering is not the fault
Of man nor God -- nor can prayer halt
The disease that has come upon you -- --
There's nothing to say and nothing to do.

You capture well the listlessness of depression that arrives without warning and refuses to leave until it is ready. A sad but very effective piece of writing x
