Slowly fades the afternoon as

A Poem by Firestone Feinberg

Slowly fades the afternoon as
Day slips into evening --
In the east a rising moon
Smiles -- -- deceiving

All who trust her promises --
All who fall for her lies -- --
She plays at being wise --
But her silvery eyes -- timeless

Tho they be -- don't -- fool -- me.
I realize not her fantasy:
She no jewel of night --
Full unfaithful her light.

Enjoyed this poem. The poor old moon often gets a lot of blame! I am curious to know about the rhyming in the last verse. Was this designed or accidental?

Right you are dear Holly. Thanks for your wonderful review. You're terrific! --David
This seems to speak of unfaithful friends or lovers, personified by the moon...a moon which only shows us part of its whole self. A nicely penned 'mood piece.' ~ Robert.

i had an ex-wife like this...deceiving, burnt bridges, many of them...left people shaking their heads...and wondering why they only saw half of the moon....well, the other half was behind a cloud.

nicely done.
