Understanding poetry

A Poem by Firestone Feinberg

Understanding poetry
Is often far beyond my ken --
The modern kind -- especially --
Eludes me -- So again

I make my weary plea:
Poets!  Please!  Have pity
On me!  I try so hard to
Comprehend...  And do you

Try to trick me then? --
I sometimes wonder: What's
The point?  I'm easy to fool --
School -- was long ago.

We don't always have to understand it, it it makes you feel something, then I'd be happy....we all read through shades of a different perspective, do with it what you wish after it's been cast out into the cafe....the point is poetry/writing is what keeps us sane, or for me it is anyway, valid point ...well done Dave!

what you get is what you get....and it is as legitimate as what any other reader pulls from a poem

however the poems speak to you...as long as they do in some way...that is success.

no need to be patient...poets have to let the poems belong to the reader...

never one interpretation..it is art.

Simplicity is out the window...of course...the modern day poets are just taking the old stuff and reinventing them...I'm sure poetry will look like text messages in the future...

Man oh man do I agree with the sentiments presented here. I too am a simple man and the strain of trying to make heads or tails out of some submissions can be quite exhausting. Well said. Your friend in words, Pete
