Spider.A Story by Poe Met Emily
I didn't understand the words coming out of my mouth, but his face twisted and his nose wrinkled. He was trying not to cry. He was so much smaller than me, the size of a four year old, instead of his average six foot height. He was thin and naked. My heart began to swell as tears pushed past my eyes. My body shook with the sobs as I wrapped him in a fragile hug.
I could no longer see my younger brother's face, only his back, where his spine showed. I moved away from him, cupping my hands as my tears and mucus fell into my palms. It was clear, familiar. But my sobbing was unending as the weight in my stomach. My cupped hands were filling up fast. I hurried to the closest bathroom, dropping the liquid into the toilet bowl. I took a shaky breath, watching a few drops of red drip onto my cupped hands. My heart skipped slightly. Blood. I began pulling thick red goo from my nostrils, throwing it into the toilet. My eyes grew wide as it seemed to not end, my sobs quieting in the sense of panic. I kept pulling, glancing at the pile growing on the toilet water's surface. Pieces were moving. I leaned in closer, examining them. Parts of spiders were protruding from the goo. I paused, looking at the ball in between my fingers. It was a small black spider covered in my blood. My heart paused painfully as I pulled a leg from between my teeth. I knew the next time I pulled the goo from my nose, I would see a full black widow wiggle in my hands, and try to crawl inside my mouth. © 2018 Poe Met EmilyAuthor's Note
